The pregnant-belly auction apparently gave Soothies an idea. The company — which makes breastfeeding pads — wants not just one pregnant woman, but 10. Unfortunately the company’s only paying each $250 bucks — and potential ad vehicles have to send in pictures of their bellies along with an explanation of why they want to participate. Crazy world.
Can POPstick CEO Make It As “Apprentice”?
Sorry so quiet today — big deadlines plus exhaustion. So in the meantime I’ll offer you a link to a great piece my colleague Kevin Newcomb wrote on “The Apprentice” contestant Danny, who also happens to be CEO of a digital marketing firm.
Alan Meckler: Jerry Yang To Keynote At SES New York
Nice coup for our company. Jupitermedia CEO Alan Meckler is announcing (in his blog) that Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang will keynote SES New York. Should be a treat.
Google’s Future
In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, I’ll break the news to you that Google released 4th quarter earnings yesterday. In other exciting developments, The Onion has the scoop on what the search company will be working on in 2005.

UPDATE: Google also posted a little presentation on what they accomplished with AdWords in 2004. I wonder which of the engineers pictured got the Google Founders Award (some chunk of $12 million in stock). I’m guessing it’s Eric, Chad and Claire.
More unintended consequences
So, the big spam attack has had another interesting consequence. Apparently, the new MSN Search indexed the The-River.net page with all of the crazy, nasty spam on it, so the new, revamped site is getting traffic from people searching for unspeakable things on MSN. How disappointed these folks must be when their search for “horny drunk girls hardcore sex pictures” (just one example) brings them here. (This is my not-so-techie interpretation of my referrer logs.)
When you search for my name (ah, vanity searching) on MSN you get The-River.net as the first result, and the cached page leads you to the spam-ridden version.
The result looks something like this:

A Superb Sunday
I had some ambition of getting pictures up before I blogged about this, but alas, will have to add them later…
Michael and I had the most exquisite Sunday — the kind of day that makes you really appreciate living in Northern California. We woke up knowing we had chores — oil change for the car, etc. — but we wanted to get out and we couldn’t resist the beautiful day. We took off over the Richmond/San Rafael bridge to Marin County and headed toward the 1. Immediately, things started to get interesting — wooded and winding — and eventually we emerged to amazing views of the Pacific. We were heading toward the Point Reyes National Seashore, where even whale watching was a possibility. Upon our arrival, after seeking counsel from a Park Ranger, we enjoyed a 5 mile circular hike that took us through mountains and marshlands. We were divebombed by a hummingbird apparently protecting its territory, saw dozens of hawks, and even managed a little stroll on the beach.
Afterward, we were dead tired and so hungry. On the way back, we happened upon the Parkside Cafe in Stinson Beach. We had been expecting a burger, but ended up with a gourmet three-course extravaganza. We rolled out of there satisfied and with huge smiles on our faces. This (and his job, of course) is why we moved to the Bay Area.
