Well, Google’s got a perpetual patent license and Yahoo!’s getting 2.7 million shares .
Yahoo!’s goofing on Google for
Yahoo!’s goofing on Google for committing an apparent cardinal sin, when it hosted Google Dance 2004 at SES San Jose this week. Search for “SES party rule #1” on http://search.yahoo.com and you’ll get the easter egg. The company did a similar gag after the Onion wrote about it launching a “Soul Search” engine.

Good Bay Area Blogs?
Is there a San Francisco-style blog that compares to Gawker or Gothamist? Who’s covering the culture and memes of the Bay Area in a thoughtful, engaging manner? Does that just not exist on the Left Coast? I know New York’s the media center and all, but surely there’s some RSS-ish way for me to get up to speed on what will soon become my home…
Don’t think I’m being completely LazyWeb about it. I have been looking on my own. But nothing really jumps out at me so far. Any help (in the comments or at theriver (at) mcnigel.com) would be much appreciated.
Sullivan’s Status
I knew it all along. Danny Sullivan is a god.
Unfortunately, missed SES this time around, but will surely make San Jose when it’s just down the road.
Viral Scottish Sheep
This one is for my husband, who always enjoys hearing Scottish accents on American television (did you ever see the one for Extra gum where the animated gum package spoke in a Scottish burr?). Anyway, “Sheep Escape” — which at least is a Braveheart reference — is apparently having something of a viral impact as I found it via Justin Kirby’s Viralmeister.
UPDATE:
UPDATE2:
Wrigley’s apparently likes the Scottish Extra character, as he is now making an appearance in a new spot in which he chases after a triathlete who hurriedly leaves her gum behind at the race’s start. “Long lasting” Extra makes it all the way to the finish, though he pronounces himself “in a wee spot of trouble” when a plastic cup lands on him in the end.
Secret VC Language
My buddy Chervokas and I had a joke back in the @NY days about “secret VC language.” He was still a journalist then, but a budding VC (and went on to join the now-defunct Primedia Ventures), and he’d occasionally launch into a discussion with a VC that would set my head spinning. I’ve since learned a little bit more about venture financing, but Brad’s post today about VC cliché reminded me of the old days:
The two guys that work with me in Colorado… are visiting me in Alaska this week. We started joking about all the ridiculous things we (VCs) say on a regular basis. At the risk of exposing “super secret VC information”, I thought I’d write up a few of these phrases along with what they actually mean.
